Montpelier Square, Knightsbridge, London
Symmetrys Limited were appointed the engineers on the refurbishment of a six storey Victorian terraced house in Knightsbridge, London. The proposed works included the lowering of the basement and extensive internal refurbishment works with the removal of internal load bearing walls.
The majority of the structural works lay at the rear of the structure where a three storey extension was removed together with all of the internal columns that supported a four storey out rigger. New steel frames were installed to provide the client with an open plan room with double storey clear heights. As well as the site being extremely compact with complex party wall issues we had the added challenge of refurbishing the foundation of a redundant swimming pool in the basement. Basement slabs were lowered which increased the height of the existing underpins.
